Previous Conventions
The two original conventions that preceded the Convention concerning International Carriage by Rail (COTIF) are: –
- the International Convention concerning the Carriage of Goods by Rail (CIM), which came into force on 1 January 1893, and
- the International Convention concerning the Carriage of Passengers and Luggage by Rail (CIV), which came into force on 1 October 1928.
These two original conventions were succeeded by COTIF 1980, which was the result of a fundamental reform of their institutional provisions. COTIF 1980 came into force on 1 May 1985.
